5 Things I Learned About Myself Through Jumprope

I wanted to share with you 5 things that I've learned about jumping rope or skipping, depending on what you call it.

It's an amazing exercise, easy to start, relatively cheap (depending on your choice of rope) and can be done pretty much anywhere.

But first, my first tip with exercise, above all others, is to pick something that you enjoy. Chances are that you will then be able to keep it up, right? Especially, if it's a tough exercise.

Pick something that challenges you. Set yourself challenge with a target, or end goal. Something that you can measure yourself against. Challenges can be really motivating so are well worth looking at and I would definitely recommend following a challenge or making one up for yourself.

One of the most popular challenges, and one I'd recommend from personal experience, is the Couch-to-5k program.

Another thing is the mental shift, that takes you from thinking something is impossible, to being possible. When we look at a challenge and think that it...

How Can You Live Longer?

Today's topic is something really important. Should we be looking at how we can live longer, or should we be looking at how we can improve our lives?

Some people seem to spend a significant amount of money in order to live longer. This could be through diet and nutrition or fancy gizmos like cryo-chambers.

For me, I think it's about improving the quality of our lives as much as living longer. So bio-hacking and strategies to prolong our lives are great and useful for all of us. There are some suggestions that humans should be able to live to 136 years old. Some put that figure as high as 180.

From my perspective though, I think living a long life is only useful if you are able to still operate at your full mental capacity and still be physically able to get around.

When we know what to do and put in time and effort it's like we're in training for something. I think, what we're training for is life in effect. In order to live longer and experience more of life.

How To Stop Being A Couch Potato and Exercise

The only real way to work past your lazy nature is firstly to accept it. Once you have done so, it is easier to help working past it. This will be a slow process and will not occur overnight.

The KEY to this is finding a motivation for exercise. For many people, this is to decrease the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and for many others, this is to lose weight and therefore gain confidence and other positive aspects that come from exercise such as endorphins and serotonin release in the brain. Different people have different motivations, however it is key to know certainly what your motivation is and have a genuine drive to achieve your goal. If the drive is not genuine and does not come from you, you will most likely continue to be not exercise.

Before we say anything else, lets just be clear, the term ‘couch potato’ is a little negative and this is no surprise because the meaning is something along the lines of “a person who watches a lot of...

You Too Can Run 5K in 8 Weeks Part 2 - Running Safety

Want to start running? Good for you! In my opinion you have made an excellent exercise choice. Running is not for everyone, but once you’ve started, and you realise you like (no, love!) it, then you will not look back. I think that runners are runners for life even if they don’t do it for a while.

Running is a form of exercise that you can start at low cost, with ease, and start immediately. If you can walk with some ease you can run.

In this second part of 3 articles I am going to share with you how you can run safely. Part 1 on how you start running is available here.

I absolutely hate the fact I have to write this article but here we are.  I remember when I was running in my 20s before my car accident I still had to be careful about where I ran,  how I ran, and what I did for safety. Sadly, it's still the same but there is some stuff that you can do which will make you safer.

As you read this don't worry about the distances I suggest at the start. If I...

Ensure you will remain motivated, rather than quit once you feel bored.

Ways to do this:

  • Pick one race you will run every year. Having a tangible goal will allow you to stay motivated, and have a bigger purpose to your running. You could also include friends or family, to make the experience more enjoyable, and therefore make you more likely to train hard for it.
  • Be prepared. Always keep a bag with running clothes and shoes with you in your car,...

5 Habits To Add More Than A Decade To Your Life

A Guardian article published on 30th April 2018 says that there are 5 habits that can add more than a decade to your life.

Is it clickbait or is it real information?

I’ll share the 5 habits that the researchers at Harvard University shared in a moment. They used lifestyle questionnaires and medical records from 123,000 volunteers to understand how much longer people lived if they followed a healthy diet, controlled their weight, took regular exercise, drank in moderation and did not smoke.

The research study quite rightly says “Americans have a shorter life expectancy compared with residents of almost all other high-income countries. We aim to estimate the impact of lifestyle factors on premature mortality and life expectancy in the US population.”

And the conclusions are simple and easy to understand: “Adopting a healthy lifestyle could substantially reduce premature mortality and prolong life expectancy in US adults.”

BUT… and...
